I found a package of five brass cases for sale on Gunbroker for use with the 1863.
Anybody know anything about these? The idea seems to be similar to using the cardboard tubes.
I think I read something about these someplace, but my memory is having a senior moment.

I suppose you mean these thick brass tubes with just a flashhole at the rear?
I use them in an italian-made carbine with round balls for plinking
but they don't fit my others Sharps
If you want to shoot these shells, you should place the brass ring that comes with them, in the breech block,
in order to avoid a big problem
without this ring, the recoil will move the shell into the breech block and the whole mecanism will be stuck
that's my experience

sorry fot my bad English

brass tubes
as stated: not all Sharps chambers are the same diamensions...
your gonna have to measure the lenght and diameter of your chamber and compare it to the diamensions of the tubes,,,,,,,,,,dont jump in and buy these blindly!

Thanks, guys, but the auction is long since ended, and I decided even before your responses that the cases couldn't be the greatest idea in the world.
To me they looked like a solution to a problem that never existed in the first place. I'm happy with my traditional combustible cartridges.
