The .44/90 BN rough rider drew blood!

Post by Kurt »

With an invitation from friend Dick Savage to join him on this hunt, and some arm twisting from friend Bill the rdnck  I used the .44 Shiloh instead of the .50 on this hunt and from Bills advice where to place this shot ended up as a clean one shot quick kill at 100 yards with a clean pass through the lungs using the .44 with a load of 92 grains of 2F KIK with a 500 grain PP round nosed bullet that is a close copy of an original sharps bullet.
This young two year old bull laid down in about 50 yards.
I had a great time with five friends on this hunt.
It just cant get much better than this!!!

Nice buff! How do you like your 44-90 compared to your 50-90?

There was a .50-90 being used, I didn't even pull mine out so I cant tell you much.
But I will say this. I really noticed the reaction of the Bisons hit with the .44 RN bullet and a flat nosed bullet shot from a .45-70 left no doubt that it was hit. More so than the .50 did.
The first bull hit with a .45-70 with a 485 gr flat nosed bullet put the bull on his knees when he was hit with a heart shot and got up again and went a short distance and went down for the count with a 1 shot hit.
My .44 when it hit he humped his back and just went a short distance and that was it with a 1 shot kill.

Kurt , it'ld be pretty neat if you could get that video to where folks can see it. There's no doubt about that buff being hit and not long for this world...Almost think you can hear the bullet hit.

It wont down load on photo bucket for some reason Don.

I didn't hear the bullet hit, the wind was driving my hearing aids nuts from the wind blowing by them. I had a problem hearing Oren talk to me.

Sam.

Thank you.
No I used 1/25.
The hole was the same going out as it was going in. I could not find a hole till it was skinned out.
I saw a blood trail that came from blowing out of his nose not from the entrance or exit hole. The bullet hit no bones.

Here are the members of our hunt, You cant find a finer bunch of guys to spend time with on a hunt.
I will just use there first names if they want they can post there last name. Left to right, Marty J, John S, Dick S, Steve S, and me at the end.
We also had a none shooter with us and a great young lad Gus with his Dad in the lower photo That will be a upcoming hunter in a year or so.
That hump over Marty's left shoulder is another buff down.
