I too am close to finishing a Hawken style .50. It sports a slow twist GM barrel, Pecatonica stock, and shoots real good.

Best, DB

PS Great deer, great rifle, .58's are deadly!

I have a .58 Hawkin style and a .54 in the same configuration with a longer barrel and have not killed a thing with either unless you count steel targets. That Laural Mountain Forge I got from Track of The Wolf is the best brown muzzle loader barrel finish I have ever seen or used.
I love White Tail Deer as I grew up hunting them without success. I've killed a truck load of black tails and a couple of Mule Deer but never a white tail.
They just seem to be the Royalty of the deer family to me and that dude is a monarch! Nice going!

Mike.

I been sort of hoping it would brown in time

Your right about the white tails. They dont get to old here in my local but the good food they get here beans and corn some milo makes them into a fine critter. A lot of the B&C have been taken here.

I hunted a very large double drop tine for three years that carried his nose just above the ground form a neck wound. This guy had a gray face when they found him in the ditch along side the road.

Kurt that's a very nice buck taken in a great manner. Congratulations.

Obviously everybody has had your experience. The times I remember is when I've had a good opportunity and blew it because of a missed shot or wrong move. All the other skunked years just blend together.
