Texas Shooter,
Glad to hear you like the rifle, but it's a #3 Sporter, not a Hartford. The barrel is 32" and I would never give up that add-on pistol grip. I like it much better than the traditional pistol grip - it is quite a bit more functional. I made that one and have a webpage describing the process.

My 1st Shiloh- for your viewing pleasure
Montana Roughrider delivered in 1996.
#1 heavy full octagon bbl, shotgun buttstock, checkered steel buttplate, pewter forend tip, and a piece of exceptional "semi-fancy"wood (I'm sure this one missed being graded as extra fancy - the fiddleback is unbelieveable how it changes depending on light and viewing angle). Also wearing a mid-range vernier w/windage rear tang sight by "the Riflesmith" and interchangeable globe front sight.
And it SHOOTS!

All the stock from Cape Outfitters was bought by :
Jeff Mayfield at 573-651-3200
He has an email address but I can't find it. He also has a periodic flyer but I can't find it either. Seems like a nice fellow and prices are the same as Cape's were.

Howdy NoHorse-
Axtel sights are good and are well suited to the shooting I'm doing which is informal recreationl shooting vs. BPCR.
The adjustments are very repeatable, almost no backlash in the adjustments, markings very clear and easy to read. They are sufficiently heavy duty but retain a clean, graceful appearance that is a compliment to the rifle. Some of the sights I've seen are built stout - but so much so that they look out of place on the rifles to my eye. Overall fit & finish is comparable to the MVA sights however I'll give a tip of the hat to MVA over the Axtel for their blueing. Thing is - MVA were'nt on the scene (or at least on my RADAR at the time I purchased the rilfe (which was in 1994 - not 1996 as I posted originally). The other thing I like about the sight is that it is easily detachable from the base.
According to what I read about BPCR though - it may come up short for actual competitive use when shooting in serious wind. The Soule rear sights have more windage adjust.
For the folks interested in following up "Cape Outfitters" The new outfit's name is "Jeff's Outfitters" and his website is:
http://www.jeffsoutfitters.com/
He's a frequent advertiser in "GUNLIST".
Best regards-

Thanks for posting those pictures of your beautiful RoughRider. You really got a deal on that "semi fancy" wood. Maybe if we ask nicely, and a lot of us post some links to pictures of their rifles, we can get a gallery for them. I would really enjoy seeing everyone's rifles.
