Out of the box

Post by Stephen Borud »

Shots 15-20 out of the box, I cleaned after the 20th shot. 50 1 3/4", duplicated the original load, 100 yards. This is the first rifle that I've had a scope on, very interesting to say the least.

I shot a few more groups as well, all were similar.

Stephen,
What was the distance, rifle and scope? I'm liking it, whatever it is.

Shooting grease groove bullets in a sharps is new technology and just a passing fad.

Stephen, I assume that this is the original PP load, not the grease grooved one? It looks like a shooter for sure.

Sarge its a 50-70, I was shooting a 425 grain bullet under 70 grains of Fg KIK. The rifle is a #3 sporter, 28" standard weight barrel, MVA scope.

Yes Jim. I have a 50 2 1/2" Sharps with a 1/36 twist as well, shoots great. I've killed several animals with it.

That has to be a very fun rifle to shoot. Should be a great one to take hunting.

My 36 twist 2 1/2" 50 is just starting in production. Will likely be here about the same time the range thaws out ...

Nice Ward, I had this rifle built for my four boys and wife to shoot and hunt with. It's a pussy cat to shoot. You will like your 50, it's a killer round.

And....as Orville has suggested on several occasions the 1-36" twist will let you shoot the 473 gr. PP bullet with less recoil and good accuracy! :D

Just out of curiosity regarding ROT for the 50 2.5 what bullet weight range's are best for the 1-22 and the 1-36? Having only shot one 50 for only a few rounds I have no experience with them. So with that in mind I'm curious.

DanO I have no experience with 1-22 twist but the 1-36 twist shoots 425 to 473 grain bullets all day long.

Stephen.

Putting a scope on my hunting rifle was a mistake.
I fumbled with the scoped rifle and said some strong language under my breath fumbling with the rifle with the scope on it. It's just in the way when loading shooting dirty during hunting conditions. Yes you can see better when your eyes are getting dim, but it just gets in the way. If I have doubt with the sight picture on a critter I just will not let a round go down range.
I took the blocks off and plugged the holes. It will not get mounted again on the Hartford.
