Antelope the old fashioned way
Saturday morning I went out for antelope with one of only 5 tags issued for a buck antelope on private land in Colorado unit 80. I had several places to go and was more interested in method than killing a B&C animal. I was pretty familiar with what was available and the first buck I saw was one I had deemed satisfactory. I was able to get with about 125 yards and that was that.
I want to thank both Rdnk and Orville for trying to help me with Lyman 457121PH and PP loads, respectively. I was unable to meet a self imposed standard with either, but my rifle likes the Govt. bullet cast 30:1 and that is what I used. Maybe next time.
Trying to post pics now including one with my antelope hound. -plc-

Looks like I got a link to photos but no photos.

Well done on the hunt and the load certainly did the job. Another vote for your 'tracker' as well. We have two mini daschhunds and they are just amazing little dogs...and great company.

Re: Antelope the old fashioned way
Since folks seem to like little Jake (the wiener dog), here's a little more on him.
He goes just about everywhere with me. Rides on the gas tank of the 4 wheeler, in the tractor when we use the bigger one with a cab and certainly in the truck. After the antelope was down and dead, my wife "released" him and he ran right up to it and grabbed it by the throat. He does this with deer and elk as well. When we brought it home he let our cats and 3 other dogs know it was "his" and they had better stay away or suffer the consequences. He is fearless despite his size. He was a birthday present to my wife 10 years ago next month. Quite a little guy.

pete,
they were originally bred to hunt by going down holes in the ground.
this must take great courage and vigour.

Congratulations H. Pete he's a nice buck. Congrats to OLR and Brent too. We got one too at 5:20 on the last day of the season after 5 days and a series of frustrating failed stalks.

Re: Antelope the old fashioned way
Nice goat, nice rifle and beautiful scenery.
Congratulations!
I shot a 12" antelope about five years ago, with my Shiloh #1 45-70. The shot was only about 120 yards.
Don't think I have ever seen one die faster.
He WAS dead before he hit the ground. The 405 grain bullet took high through the shoulders.
