Every Shiloh has a 'soul'.
The wood on yours is outstanding
What grade of wood is this?
How long till we get a range report?

The wood is "extra-fancy with AAA finish." I am also very satisfied with the case hardening and the fit/finish is excellent. The range report will come as soon as possible as this is my first experience with MVA sights.Lumpy Grits wrote:Every Shiloh has a 'soul'.

Re: New to Shiloh rifles ...
I am interested in knowing what bore cleaners, gun oils you all prefer? Does the Sharps require anything special? I've used my share of Hoppes over the years like most of you.
I got my first rifle over 50 years ago so I am not inexperienced at caring for my firearms. I noticed this last week that my supplies were getting extremely low so if there is a change to be made to some products better suited for this rifle, now is the time.
Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated ...

Hope you plan to shoot real BP.
They shoot there best with BP......
The best cleaner I have found for BP, is Windex multi-surface with vinegar.
I use Eezox for preservative and general gun lube.

Great Looking Shiloh, bigjeepman.
I would get some Gunglow, to put on your rifle's exterior.
Shiloh sells it, and Kirk recommends it. It will keep your wood and metal in excellent condition.
I use it on my rifles, and it works great.

I mostly clean with Butches Black Powder Bore Shine and I oil it with Eezox before I put it away. The nice thing about Eezox is that in addition to protecting the bore, a few tight patches with it will tell you if there is any lead in the bore.

Hey Chris where did you get your Eezox from? I checked the usual gun shops, Cabelas and Canadian Tire etc, no dice. I guess I have to order it online?
