Yes.

I don't know why now and never before in decades of shooting. All I can think of is it is that particular lot (210.113) of powder has an issue. Seems improbable, but I have no other hypothesis to test. Just loaded from a different lot.

The problem you discussing is basically the same problem that I am going thru. Hopefully I have traced mine back to my lube. Not 100% thru this nightmare yet. The next couple of matches will tell for sure.

MAH. It is a nightmare. But I have exactly ZERO lube in all three of these guns. None what so ever. What is your powder lot?

Yes, that's what I am loading now. Will try it in Lodi in 10ish days.

Brent,
I hope you have ALL the "whatever" is in those barrels totally cleaned out before
you try the other lot of powder.

Can it possibly be the paper batch?

The conditions I was encountering were very similar to yours. Except I had long threads that appeared to look like plastic. The rifles would shoot great then just go into another time and dimension. My powder is Swiss 1 1/2 lot number 21/07/2014. Too correct the problem, I reduced the powder charge by 4.5 grains and went to a different lube. Lost 30 fps on a 400 gr. money bullet in a 40-65. Jury is still out. I will know better after this next match.

How much of this color is the original forming oil from the manufacturer? That new barrel had oil in it. Barrel is hot and the pores absorb the oil as it cools.

THe new barrel had been wiped down with my normal barrel oil, and then, prior to this test, wiped dry of everything. It was as clean as steel can be. And it produced a dark grey, but not black patch.

That grey color is steel!! Seen that on numerous occasions while lapping pistons, valves, and all other junk on big yellow junk. You can not get your barrel any cleaner!
