Re: The Real Deal for BPCR 22LR Rifle Matches
Loading .22 cases used to be popular when .22 boosting .22 LR into a .22 MAG for long range matches before they came on the market. CH-4-D and Herders made a complete set of dies and primed brass has available. I still have a 1/2 3# can of primed cases and shell holder and dies, but I only load black now days now and they shoot very well.
It's good to see the dies and cases coming back again.

So, Kurt and John what is the cleaning regimen during a 22 match? Can you dip lube the bullets with SPG and shoot the entire match without cleaning? Do you use a tiny blow tube? I ordered 4000 primed cases so I am now in deep. Decided to do this because I have not seen primed 22 cases in a long time. I also got the Old West 40gr double cavity mould. Not sure between the two choices of dies - Old West vs CH4D. Thanks for the info. Now I just need some Swiss NullB powder. One can should last a lifetime! Thanks! - Mike

Mike.
I know the search function here is hit and miss, mostly miss for me, but a few years ago I posted a test target here comparing the black powder .22 against Wolf and a couple other brands and the black shot just as well. I looked for the target but I can't find it.
The surprising thing with the .22 it shot the black powder load best not cleaning between shots with my Win low wall and I also use them in my 39 Marlin with out feeding problems.
I tested 2F, 3F and 4F the 3F performed the best. I was using KIK at that time.
I don't know if C-H-4D still has dies or not. I think John might got the last one off the shelf.

Yeah, I do not even find 22LR or 5.6x15R dies on the CH4D site anymore so I guess Old West will be the dies for me.

Shooting these 22 BP reloads with a dirty bore is really not an issue - 40 consecutive rounds, no patching or tubing
* and I also believe I got the last CH4D 22LR seat/crimp die. It was a special order and took over an hour to find it when I called

John, what powder and what granulation are you using for this? It looks in the photo that you were using 4.2 grains of DuPont? I have access to Swiss and have 1fg, 1.5fg, and 3fg on hand. I know that Swiss also makes NullB. - Mike

Re: The Real Deal for BPCR 22LR Rifle Matches
Mike, the DuPont powder was 40 to 60 mesh grains that I sifted out of a can FFFFg
After shooting some targets, I've settled using 4.5gr of Null-B only

What I like about loading .22 rounds you can load them softer than BB caps if you been around long enough they were loaded with round balls and the priming compound was enough to make them fly and very quiet loads for shooting in the basement using a card wood box fillet with rags for back stop.

Just got my 3 die set from CH4D. Typical CH4D quality. They look great. Now to cast up some 40 grain heel bullets and dip lube them in SPG.

Re: The Real Deal for BPCR 22LR Rifle Matches
All the CH-4-D dies are top quality. I don't use my .22 die set too often but I would not part with them for anything.
Just be careful not to get too rough with the compression and set off the priming compound.
