First of all I didn't know Utah had islands. Evidentially Antelope Island State Park is in the Great Salt Lake. Second, damn!

Serves the dumb bastard right and he was damned lucky to got off as good as he did. Mtn bikers and buffalo don't mix well either, every year in Custer State Park they find that out too. bobw

I dont think he is a dumb bastard. Just an unlucky one.

Perhaps a smart bastard would always go for a run with nothing less than a .450 BPE double rifle, I suppose.

Brent, I don't know but trail runners and mtn bikers think they should run or ride anywhere they want but I'd bet that those buffalo have priority use of that area. Here in SD at CSP their are hundreds if not thousands of signs that tell people to not get in the animals face or space. That guy was where he shouldn't have been in the 1 st place period. just my thought. MB

Right. Running on trails in national parks should be illegal... probably should be a felony.

Well if you think so fine. but really if he had been walking instead of blasting along maybe he would have seen the buffalo first and avoided the whole encounter. There are safer places to run.

Yes, runners are evil people. Definitely felons. He deserved every bit of it and more actually.

Really?

Whether runners are evil people or not, I don't know. I assume that most are not.
But a person doing an activity that is likely to startle a bison, and be perceived by a bison as threatening, shouldn't be too surprised at a consequence such as this one.

Running is a health hazard. Show me a guy who can put away three cheeseburgers, a 6pack and a large fry and I'll show you a guy who can outlive anything.

East of Flagstaff Arizona, south of I-40, near Twin Arrows and Meteor Crater lies the Arizona Game & Fish Commissions Buffalo Ranch.

Having hunted Elk in that area and becoming acquainted with the resident Game Warden on the Buffalo Ranch I recall some of the stories about the Buffalo Herd he oversaw daily because he actually lived on the ranch and accompanied the hunters harvesting bison there.

As I recall, his lead toxin delivery backup system was a Remington Model 760 in 270 Winchester which obviously suited his purposes satisfactorily. Those bison apparently ignore gunfire.

A somewhat amusing incident involved a brand new Commission 3/4 Ton Pickup that he drove out to check on the herd and the truck was attacked by a large Bison Bull, the bull first removing the entire front right quarter panel. Had the bull confined its hostility exclusively to the front right quarter panel of the pickup significant intervention probably would not have been necessary.

Once, it was decided to allow archers to fill their Bison Tags with archery tackle. One archer chose to use a traditional long bow and did successfully arrow a bison. However, at the twang of the bow string upon release of the arrow the herd stampeded taking several 5 strand barbed wire fences with them on their way North. I heard archery tackle is not recommended for taking bison on that venue.

so im sure there is a really big sign or at least a few smaller ones that say.....There are wild animals out here and if provoked can charge and injure you....or something to that extent..... I really have no sad feeling for that idiot... would anyone have different feelings someone who went out in the Alaskan bush without a firearm, and got mauled by a bear.....welcome to the food chain my friend....some of us are at the top others are at the bottom...just too bad it makes a beautiful wild animal look like a monster

I'm not seeing anyone involved saying, "I know I'm at fault here. The bison were doing what they have always done. I was intruding on them."
We humans are so self-important. Just because you can/may, doesn't mean you should. No sympathy here for the fool.

Probably all have seen the dangerous animal videos on TV. Some injuries result in death so I am not making fun here. My favorite is the man being tossed into the top of the short tree by the buffalo he is trying to photograph at Yellowstone. Bulls have been known to push their way out of a log enclosure so they are not to be trifled with. On the other hand there is that guy who does the half time shows at the rodeos riding the saddled mature bull around like a pony.
