45-90 safe in 45-100
Is it safe to shoot 45-90 in 45-100 chamber?

As a previous poster said, it’s not practical.
There will be a loss of accuracy, excessive fouling, & leading as the bullet expands to fit the longer chamber, then makes the jump through the longer chamber, then is resized down to fit the throat & bore.
Or at least that is what happened when, on a whim, when I shot ‘bout 5 .45-2.1” (AKA .454-70) BP rounds in my .45-2.4” (AKA 45-90).
I would think that the larger powder charge of the .45-2.4” would only create more fouling in the .45-2.6” (AKA .45-100) chamber.

I have a question for you fellows. I've read all that you've said, as well as Kirk's prior comments but the 45-100 is only 2/100's less then the 45/90. Why would this adverselyeffect the barrel; would the negative effect only be if black powder is used. If you used smokeless, like in a 22 short and 22 long rifle or a 38 special in a 357, would the negative results be the same?

Rich thats not 2/100's
Its 2/10ths of an inch difference in a 2.600 chamber vrs a 2.400 chamber.
I have seen ringed 22 LR chambers that had a lot of shorts fired in them.
Our soft bullets will bump up to fit that large chamber space then have to swage down again to fit the bore. Lots of space for errosion and damage to occur. Also leading of the area is almost a given.
