Cpa recovered projectile.
I will try to post the pic of the projectile that was shot in the pool here. I forgot to mention that the rifle is 45/70. [/img]

Very nice looking bullet. Paper patched bullets do seem to work well. What is your alloy mix?

Re: Cpa recovered projectile.
it looks as tho your paper is set a little low on the bullet.... I would try to get that closer to your ogive.... not sure if you are but, ya might be getting a lil leading from that. But its one good lookin bullet for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No leading. This is the exact same set up I shoot in my highwall and it shoots great. This cpa also looks like it may be a real good shooter also so I don’t think I will mess with patch length.

I actually used to patch them a little longer at one time but every now and then I would get a flier that would go way off into left field. That went away after I shortened them a little.

Tell me about shooting in the pool, how deep did it go, and how exactly did you do it? I have a buddy with a pool, but I don't want to blow hole in it when I try this.

We stood 5’ back or so from the pool and shot into it at an angle. It was about 6’ deep I think. Not sure exactly how far they went but once the smoke cleared there it was resting at the bottom.

Re: Cpa recovered projectile.
For those of us that dont have pools. What depth of water would it take if fired vertically down?
I am thinking of a 44gal (200 litre) oil drum with the top cut out, and a wire basket with a bit of carpet in it to catch the slug.
Would it be enough for our BP velocities and lead bullets?

Perentie,
Get ready for a shower shooting into that barrel,
unless you can get really high above it

Re: Cpa recovered projectile.
So the fella who has the pool that we had shot into has also tried the barrel trick. The story he told me was that he stood on the roof of his house and shot into the barrel. He said most of the water that was in the barrel was on him and his rifle shortly after pulling the trigger. What was left was leaking out of the exit hole the bullet made IIRC

I have shot a pistol into a horse trough with no ill effect. A picture of the roof to barrel event would be "Priceless".

That would be something to see. I was laughing pretty hard listening to the way he told the story. I’ll see if I can talk him into re creating the event and post the video on YouTube.
