I have a Dan Theodore design Manson reamer -marked 40-72 Hybrid.
It is based on the 405 Hornady brass to be used full length.
No freebore and has a 1.5 degree per side Leade/throat.
Still a "GG" straight neck diameter.
We had my friend's Shiloh 40-70 chamber "freshed out" so he
immediately could use the 405 Hornady brass.
Also, my Ruger No 1, is rebarrelled with a 12 twist Douglas barrel,
same chambering for the 40-72 DT hybrid , using the 405 H brass.
They work very well with my DDEPP -two diameter PP bullets
or my two diameter GG bullets.
The shorter 371 gr for friend's 16 twist Shiloh and the long 1.54" DDEPP for
the 12 twist Ruger.

Yes, the two-diameter PP bullets works great in my Shiloh Sharps 40-70 ss with shortened and neck-turned 405 Hornady brass. The model 1874 rifle has a 16-twist with Shiloh’s standard cut chamber. I finally placed first, after years of trying with GG bullets, at a monthly match (27 - zero chickens, 9 pigs, 8 turkeys, and 10 rams) with an Arnie Seitz designed shorter (1.325") Duel Diameter Paper Patch bullet. My partner called a perfect match. Two of the misses were shooter error and I am blaming the #10 turkey miss on a separated case (sounds better than shooter error :D ).
