Shiloh serial numbers

Post by James »

As many of us have become as interested in Shiloh Sharps history as the operation of them could the serial number ranges and sequences be discussed.
The first one I bought was #1022 in 1979 built by Wolfgang. Later that year I got one that had been a preproduction gun #195. My third rifle, bought at a gun show in March of 2000 is B55xx and is of coarse a Bryant gun. As I understand Wolfgang started with 1000 when he began production of 1874 model. I've heard that when the 10,000 Shiloh was made the B began to be used as a prefix by the Bryants. If that is correct, then what year was that and what number was first used with a B?

I would be interested in verification of the start at 1000. My earliest one is #1008 (a carbine length 45-70 DST LNIB). I am looking for a Shiloh to rebarrel to Heavy 50-90 and think it is a bad idea to wreck this one.

B0001 was stamped in the spring of 1991.

There was a pretty good article in the 1987 issue of "Gun Digest." According to that article, the Shiloh Sharps serial numbers started with 200; not 1000.
