South Texas buck with the 50-90 PP
Hey Guys,
Took this nice South Texas Whitetail the other morning with the new 50-90.
Special thanks to Stephen, Orville, and Redneck who helped me get set up with the load and sights.

Congrats that's a nice buck. Tell us about the load and the shot/hunt if you have the time to do so.

Re: South Texas buck with the 50-90 PP
The load is made up of Starline brass, 100 grns. of Swiss 1F, two .030 card wads with a 3/8" lube cookie of SPG Tropical. The bullet is 478g cast 30/1 from a KAL adjustable Mould and paper patched. I was trying to copy the original 473g PP Sharps bullet, but I never could get it just right. The Rifle has Orville's paper patch chamber so I just hand seat the bullets. I had hunted this deer for 2 years and never seen him in daylight. I knew my best chance was to catch him was when the rut starts. I put up a ground blind in an area I knew he lived. It is just in the early stages of the south Texas rut, but Tuesday morning he came by pushing a doe right at daylight. I could just barely focus on the Stephen Bourd custom front sight. I put it on the shoulder and touched it off. I heard the hit, but the smoke cloud blocked any view. When the smoke cleared he was gone. I was disappointed he didn't fall right there, and immediately thought the worse. I decided to wait at least 30 minutes before I walked down there. Of course it seemed like an hour, but I finally walked to where he was standing 95 yds away. I found good lung blood, and a good blood trail. It was easy to follow and I found him about 50 yards away. My shot was good vertical but a little forward. The big 50 punched straight through. This is the 3rd buck for me with the Sharps, my other two with the 45-90. This deer was 7-8 years old and weighed right at 200#. I am blessed to have a place to hunt with good deer, and lots of them. I need to take a couple more does, and maybe a cull buck so the new Sharps should get a good workout. I really appreciate all the help from members here that helped me. I had many stupid questions, but always got good advice. I have been hunting Texas Whitetails for over 50 years, and this Sharps thing is the most rewarding hunting experience i've ever had.

Congratulations on a really good deer by any standard. I also enjoyed the post, good job on that, too. Once you start using a Sharps, it becomes special. Nothing else comes close. Shoot straight, rdnck.

Cool hand if you use 1-60 alloy then the wt and length of your bullet will match the original if I was at home I could tell you the length of the original bullet, I’m in AZ for the winter

Shooting grease groove bullets in a sharps is new technology and just a passing fad.

Hey guys, I was wrong. I went back and measured one of my unpatched bullets. It measured 1.066", and weighed exactly 472g. So I guess i'm pretty close after all.

Sounds like you got it just right. Lead isnt as dense as it was a 150 years ago is the one grain difference
