Fill all grease groves?

Post by ShermanCoShooter »

Hey guys, when you seat a bullet exposing a grease groove, do you fill it with grease or leave it empty? It is not for hunting and will not get dirt in it. Thank you.

Actually wondered about this question a lot, SO, after a while I loaded up some Paul Jones 45001 in a 45-70, one grease groove exposed and no grease in it. Seemed to shoot as well if not better than the same load and rifle with all grooves filled. Granted, one test is not proof for all rifles. Never has been, never will be.

Depends on how much tin is in your alloy.
Lead with tin makes a solder. :D Try to solder a pipe with just lead :D
You shoot that lead tin alloyed bullet the friction causes heat, heat will melt the solder. The more tin the lower the melting point. :|

Well it has some merit shooting cash bullets with smokeless powder in small calibers with long bullets and low pressures the black powder lube is doing a different thing in our big guns not only does it lubricate but it also keeps the powder fouling soft
