That is a good choice to go with Arnies dual diameter bullet design cast hard. You will get full rotation and a clean lead free bore.

Your rifling imprint on the base only surprises me. I have the rifling imprint all the way up the bore dia. body with 16:1 with 91 gr. of 1 1/2. Now I am intrigued, so will make up some harder slugs and perhaps the paper rings will be gone for good.

Arnie used a very hard alloy mix of WW and Lino it's high in antimony. Since I tested his EDDPP bullets I ordered two moulds of his design and modified a couple .44 moulds to a DD base but one I ordered from BA I lengthen the DD base to fit my freebore chamber of .110" and the hard alloy with the base at groove diameter and the .0018" paper I use that bullet shank above the DD base is 1/2 thousands under bore diameter. When recovered the setback is less than .010" and the land will just put a very slight mark on the shank above the groove diameter base. It's there you just cant see it in the photo it's that shallow.
Antimony is not death to accuracy as some say.

FWIW, I shoot only pp loads in my three standard-chambered Shiloh’s. I keep my (Norma) .45-90 cases trimmed to 2.40”. Checking their OAL is the first step in my reloading process. BTW, they very seldom need trimming, but I always check after firing. I use 94.0 grns. of Swiss 1 1/2 Fg. compressed .094” using a .030” vegi wad. I place a .060” poly on this, and a 1/8” felt wad, then seat the patched bullet. It’s an extremely good load, on target, and I have absolutely NO paper rings, ever. My 16:1 alloy money bullet is the BACO 444540M. I swage it to .443”, and wrap it with 9# dry paper. I anneal 1/4” of my case mouths after each firing, and slightly inside-chamfer and steel-wool the necks.
I hope this helps some…

Are you seating the projectile out as far as you can?? in my 45-90 even with cases .008 short I dont get rings. I cast 17+1 (95-5 solder)

Open country, BACO 444540M is not a dual diameter bullet, so can not compare to DD. But I do have a .443 bore dia. mold to try later. Just don't like to neck size.

Matt. .008 short would be a disaster, all my cases are 2.405-6" max . for GG and DD PP, Std. Shiloh Ptg chamber reamer. Have a .300" tall base on the dd bullet, patched bullet touching lands. Rings or not, the rifles shoots to win as it did last week At the Buz Coker Memorial shoot in Montana, 8,9,1000,1200 yds. I just find rings everywhere in my cartridge boxes. No chamber accumulation as swabbing takes care of remnants. Thinking really hard alloy as in 12:1 might fix the problem.

K Williams congrats on your day 1 win at the BCM match and 2 nd overall with ppb's with I am sure were damn tough conditions. Among other things that Accuriser worked out okay huh? Bobw

I know I could squeak out a little more accuracy with out the rings and without the potential of the bullet touching steel. Yes the Accuriser works well! Temps where over 100f, it was a endurance test!

Yesterday made up a 10 plus to 1 alloy mix and then shot some rounds. Every case still had a paper ring even with these harder DD PP bullets. Other than breaking the 45 deg. chamber chamfer to something less I do not know what else to try. My cases are as long as can be.
The harder slugs do offer up more apparent recoil.

KW,

The only way you're going to eliminate those paper rings is by eliminating that 45º wall at your chambers end.
From the report of your standing with the match results I don't think the rings are hurting you. They might not even be in the chamber if you wiping or if you see them on the case mouth when you extract the case.
Keep up the fine shooting.

Big question is it the paper rings or the fouling control that enlarges the groups? I find paper rings to make little difference, but each rifle can be a bit finicky on the fouling control.

I was told by Kirk that they are nothing to worry about, but I am not a match shooter. Since then, I rarely have them and I didn't change a thing.
