1863 Sporter Sight Question

Post by Stonehill »

If you had an 1863 sporter with a 28" barrel in 54 caliber with shiloh's full buckhorn sight, what's an appropriate max distance you could shoot targets at with young eyes and the elevation ladder on the buckhorn flipped up with the sight set as high as possible?

Thanks for the reply.

From shilohs website it doesn't seem like there's an option for short or long on the elevator shift.

I guess I'll say I'd like to know the answer to the question based on what Shiloh currently offers.

I have both. And while I don’t have a 54 percussion my 50-2.5 will shoot 800 with 2/3 of the staff.
473 gn bullet and 100 gns powder.
400 is close to the 3 mark if yours has elevation marks. Cant find my pictures I made of the settings on my 44
