I guess too many people are busy forgetting about 911 to remember what this date signifies. OBTW, P. T. Deuterman writes some excellent historical fiction on the war in the pacific. Each book is about a different character and a different boat or ship and the mission it had in that theater. Much of it is based on factual accounts. Some really great action with technical details that affected the course of the battles thrown in. Solid stuff.

Dad was already serving in the Army Air Forces and was stationed in Panama on this date. They thought they were next for a long time. I have his letters to his mother, (Grandma). Interesting reading. Dad served from before WWII thru to the beginning of Vietnam, retiring in 63.
