We've got shooters in VA. I'm near Winchester. There are shooters near Lynchburg and also near Roanoke. Where are you located?

Good call!!! Hornady brass is REALLY short!!Don McDowell wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 8:26 am Another thing, is this brass brand new, or is it range pick up stuff, fired from a variety of rifles. Shiloh chambers are tight and brass fired in a brand x rifle stands an awful good chance of not even coming close to chambering.
Wait until you get the rifle in hand and right beside you loading bench.

The Hornady component brass is proper length and some of the very best accuracy loads from my 45-70’s are built in Hornady component brass

Re: 45/70 Reloading
Consistency can only be obtained if all your components are exactly the same also. Need to check all your cases for overall length, and then size them all to the same, even if they're brand new cases. They might all fit the chamber, but it doesn't mean they are all the same size.
If you have bullets that move in the case neck after seating, then your case necks might not all be the same size. Try sizing them all, and use a dial caliper to check some to see if they're all the same neck size after sizing.
