Got an email from Curtis Stables the Desert International photographer. Was +10F as a High Temp at his place in Alaska yesterday.
I don't think January + February in Phoenix is going to bother Curtis much.

What about you forum readers and aspiring long range black Powder Target Rifle Shooters?
If Curtis can make it from Alaska and Blair can make from South Florida? You can make it from wherever you are.

Remember, as I said before, it is a dry cold. :D

DD is it like the cold in Missoula last year where you were all bundled up? Heck that was t-shirt weather.

You might be surprised to find that Missoula last August could be like Phoenix in February.
You just never know.
However, where in one trip can you shoot seven consecutive days of Black Powder Target Rifle on the best range in the world? :D Nowhere else.
Now watch the shooters that shot at Phoenix April 2023 for the remainder of the 2023 Black Powder Target Rifle Season Matches. 8)
Better yet, trace back three years and follow the shooters that shot at Phoenix 2023, 2022 & 2021, and don't forget USIMLT at Bisley, and how those shooters fared in matches after attending the Desert International. The DI is about triggernometry and improving individual performance with your rifle and load.

The only computer keyboard seen at Ben Avery was Aviator logging in the individual scores at the pits for his change. Those daily printed out scores are posted same day at the Pit Building.

"You just have to show up and shoot". Easier said than done!

Showing up will be a problem for most shooters from the northern states. Traveling in the dead of winter, and severe winter road conditions that go along with it, is no easy task. I couldn't think of a worst time of year to travel. But hey, the weather at the range will be just fine, it's the pits getting there and back home that doesn't look so good.

True that, BTW, there is winter in Alaska in February also.
Of course, for the shooters in the southern hemisphere (Aus-NZ) it is summer in Jan-Feb.
If anyone does make it, we will be glad to see you and have a great shooting experience.

Where can we find the rules for the D.I.?

(I’m in the “forum reader and aspiring long range black powder shooter” category and I’d like to try and show up with the right equipment)…

We began receiving entries Sept 1st

Regular Entries closed Dec 5th
Late Entries closed Dec 11th
Entries are logged as I receive them, not from the postmark on the senders letter. (An administrative necessity)
Examples: Letter from Alaska or New Hampshire, received in 3 days from postmark. Letter from Wisconsin & Nevada, received 8 days from postmark.
Letter from Arizona, received 5 days from post mark.

Similar irregular delivery has been relatively constant since I have been the Event Coordinator. This year is not unusual. That is why it is prudent, and recommended, to allow TEN DAYS for delivery, and yes I do check the mail box at least once daily for the last five days before each closing.

Checking the weather for Anthem, Arizona (Ben Avery Range) for next week, Lows in the 50's, highs in the 70's.
Shorts, sunglasses and sun screen. 8) Winds, BTW, forecast variable 2-8 mph. :D
Hardly enough wind to clear out the black powder smoke.

Heading out Thursday morning... chains still currently required in parts of Oregon. Figuring the driver/truck are up to the task.
