Model 1859 New Model

Post by Horse Soldier »

Back in the late 70’s I decided I wanted a Sharp’s carbine that was different. I had a Shiloh ‘63. I ordered the brass buttplate and barrel band for the Robinson from Shiloh. I made a copy of the brass patch box. Put everything together and I have a New Model 1859.

At first I questioned the "New" name but then I saw that: The original early brass mounted were simply "Model 1859". Although late brass mounted with "friction ridges" on the breech block would be "New Model 1859". I get wound up since I have an iron mounted early 30,xxx SN with the early non- ridged block. Sounds very nice.
