Baldwin front sight

Post by gus65 »

I recently bought a used rifle with a Baldwin front. I would like to change the aperture but the knurled end cap is super tight. I do not want to bugger it with pliers. Is the threaded end cap anchored with a small torx set screw? Thanks in advance.

It is not on mine. Maybe apply a little penetrating oil before you try to remove it.

No, it's likely just too tight. Cut a little piece of inner tube to wrap around the knurled collar and grasp it with pliers to break it loose. It will protect the collar, and likely come loose easily.

Bet someone thought it was a good idea to use red lock tight on the aperture knob. You should be able to remove the knob using the advice above, but you may ruin the threads, if you do you will need a need sight. A little bit of heat may break it free. The retaining screw holds the sight to the barrel and does have anything to do with that aperture knob. I have six of his sights. Good luck.
