Chris the front driving band on the 459542M3 is reduced,otherwise looks very similar to the 540.

I believe the bullet I gave you last year was the Doc Lay Money bullet; not my PJ bullet.

The Doc Lay Money mould was:

542.3 grains 20:1 alloy
1.445" long
.450" Max. nose diameter in front of first grease groove
.453" diameter first band
.455" diameter second band
.459" diameter last three bands

I wonder if you put the three of them side by side if the Doc Lay nose looked more like the 542 than the 540,
and the shank up past the driving band on the 542 more resembling, but not quite the same, as the 540 ?

Just finished loading 350 of the PJ version yesterday for a trip to Phoenix at the end of February for my DT designed chambered Hepburn to send Northward toward the impact berm.

The front driving band on the 540 is reduced too, all bands, and bullet length are identical between the bullets according to BACO. As Zack says the difference is in the nose itself. It must be pretty subtle though.

I would have liked to be there too Zack. My wife will miss the trip too. It's the only match she's ever gone to with me. She's a big fan of the hot sun, and the beautiful Phoenix area.

Tell her it has been 75F here past three days, bright sunshine, not a cloud in the sky and light winds.

Today the winds kicked up and tomorrow not so warm but nothing like Frostbite Country.

Winter begins when the mercury drops below 60F, and summer begins when the Snow Birds are gone.

Been so nice it doesn't make sense to go shooting, rarely like this during a match.

Sounds nice Zack. It's just started snowing again here. It's not really cold though, right around freezing. We've had such bad weather that I couldn't even tell you when I last shot one of my black powder cartridge rifles. Hopefully we get a break soon.

I have an uncle who used to live up north. He called anything warmer than 5 degrees F "t-shirt weather"

In the winter he'd keep his deep freeze out on the back porch.

I remember visiting him and we headed out on a windy -30 degree day to do some ice fishing. Later we stopped to do some target shooting in a clearing and a bit of a blizzard started. A helicopter landed beside us and the pilot asked for directions back to town. Ah, life in the North

One positive is that the roads are a little quieter as the Canadian snowbirds head south to AZ.

Almost all of the Canadian License Plates I see from Phoenix and South say ALBERTA

To the extent they may feel like Homies down here.

Minnesota is trying diligently to outnumber them, so far they have failed except in Yuma.

Makes me smile Chris to hear you refer to relatives that live up North. Is his name by chance St. Nick ? Address North Pole?

Up North to us is Phoenix. Tusayan is our Northern Border at the Grand Canyon.

Should have posted this earlier.

Did put the 530 up against the 542 in two different 45-90's. One a 16 twist Kreiger the other an 18 twist Badger.
Comparing to another shooter using the 530 in a 16 twist Green Mountain.
Not enough difference to say grace over, until, you get to 900 yards and the conditions pick up for the Kreiger and Badger. There the 542 shined.
The Green Mountain held up to 1,000 and actually seemed to group tighter at that distance with the 542. BUT, conditions were favorable.

My conclusion, which is neither subjective nor objective, is that results may depend more on the individual shooter, load, rifle than any one thing.

I went to a Long Range Match with the 530 and that experience caused me to revert back to the 542. All depends on your results with your rifle I guess.
