Not sure what weight range you're shooting for, but I personally like heavier single shots; especially if the cartridge has much recoil. The .44-77BN is fairly firm recoil, and I like a 12 lb. or heavier rifle with it. My 10lb. Creedmoor is more felt recoil on my shoulder than my 13.5 lb. Sporter both in .44-77BN.
Just a picture to show another example for you. This is my 15 pound Freund Sharps with Gemmer style under barrel wiping rod, and 34" heavy full octagon barrel. Built in 1880 by Sharps, and shipped to Carlos Gove in February. Later converted to Freund Improvements by George Freund at his Durango, Co. shop.
