Thanks Guys! It's a 32" barrel. Aside from sending a letter to Shiloh, what's the best way to determine twist rate?

Use a cleaning rod with a tight fitting patch. Insert into the rifling. Mark the rod at the breech and again about 24 inches back from the breech. Push the rod into the barrel and when your rear mark rotates one time, mark the rod again at the breech. Pull the rod and measure the distance between that mark and your first mark. That will be your twist rate.

Nice rifle! How bad is the sight damaged? Staff bent? Or something minor?

Brass should be cheap and easy by making it from .303 British or .30-40 Krag. Dies are available from C&H4D at a reasonable price. I buy either brass for .40-.50 cents a piece often at local gun shows; sometimes even cheaper.
Probably easiest to anneal the shoulders and then just fire form to fit your chamber using a light charge of pistol powder, some filler and a wax wad over it.

Oops! I read the first part about a .40-60 Maynard, and didn't read the last sentence about it being .50-90 ! Disregard my reply.

No worries!

I do have a 1885 in 40-60 but have an extremely large supy.of brass for that.

MVA called and are great folks. Turns out it's an old Rifle Smith sight but they can still fix it
