I usually wet patch. shrinks to about .007 wet. I will try the seth cole 55w.

1-20 mix. typo.

What is the proper length to weight ration for a 1-18 twist 45-90with 1.5 swiss?
been playing for a while and still haven't gotten that yet.

Let me elaborate.
1-18 twist with a 32" barrel should stabilize a 672 grain bullet 1.79 long.
Been trying using a Hoch T Ballard 45 which throws a 1-20 .443 550 grain bullet about 1.5 long.
Wrapping with a #9 onion skin. Getting close to .450 wrapped wet.

I think your calculations are off. I have a 1 in 18 twist 45 2 7/8" and shot a 1.66" length patch to bore bullet out to 100 yds weighing over 625 grs it was murder in the recoil dept. I don't believe for a second it would have made it to 800 yds stable. 540 grs works best for me. In my 45-2,1" I go down to~1.4" 510 grs with the same twist to remain stable at 1000 yds. Others regularly use to 550 grs and lengths to 1.46". You can bet many others have tried what your talking about but no one still does it for target work. Yeah I think that 45 cal 625gr would run frt to rear on a buffalo but it was sure a miserable bitch to shoot in an 11 lb rifle. Go back to the original design length and learn to use them they seem to work for a bunch of people..bobw

1.40-1.44 will stay true to 1000+. Ive got one at 1.42 and it casts at 518gr from 16+1.

In a 45 caliber 18 twist barrel anything over 1.45 will give stability problems beyond 300 yards in calm conditions , never mind any cross winds.. That's not from any chart or table, that's from actual shooting.
