I’m taking my Shiloh Quigley on a bison hunt in January. No matter what insert I try, I just can’t see the crosshairs (or your favorite shape) in the standard globe sight when it’s up against a dark target like a bison. Too much shade in the shroud. I’ve tried painting the insert white or fluorescent orange. Inside the globe sight it still disappears. I’m thinking the MVA combination front sight is a much better option, but I am not sure what dovetail size to order. I measured the existing dovetail at 0.432 inches (as best as I could). That doesn’t match any of the available size options.
What is the experience with the MVA combo sight? Is there a better option? I intend to use the rear tang sight that came with the Quigley. I don’t expect a shot more than 150 yards.
Thanks,
Tom

I'd just go with a simple brass or german silver blade front sight. Works fine in any light.

452” is the dovetail size for reference.

My hunting rifle has the combo sight. I painted just the top of the post white and works great. If you order one just call MVA and order one for your Shiloh, don't try to give them measurements or you are going to spend a lot in shipping. When you get it call me and we will get it in over the phone.
I used a toothpick and testers model paint to paint the ball, make sure you get the large ball. It shows up great on a buffalo. You can do like Art says but, you better have a mill or that will turn into a catastrophe.
Kirk,
