I would seriously give Fiocchi LRP's a try. I have tested against Fed210's in my 45-90/40-65/38-50 and they are as every bit as good plus they run around the same price.

Checkout this web-site. These guys list LEGIT places with primers in-stock as well as their prices.

I just got a text from a fellow shooter who tested Winchester LR primes against White River Energetics LR primers. I do not know his loading details but assume, based upon the speed, he was using his 1883 HW, 40-65. He did a 5ea. shot test for each primer, wiping between shots. He measured with his Garmin Chronograph and sent pic's of the results.

Win. LRP - Avg speed - 1253fps / Stdev. 7.7fps / ext. Spread 22.8fps
WRE LRP - Avg speed - 1252.9fps / Stdev. 1.2fps / ext. Spread 3.1fps

That's one shooters 5 shot test results.

Republic Ammo has listed for $75/1000
https://republicammunition.com/product- ... e-primers/

Midsouth has listed for $79/1000

I have found similar results using Fiocchi LRP. Though my tests were not through a Chronograph, they were actual shots on Turkeys. Like the White River, they insert tight and they are taller, about level with the cartridge base.

*Thinking out loud* I am now wondering, if primer movement in it's pocket upon ignition, causes some variability in flame presentation to the powder? This variability may be part of changes in burn rate in the cartridge; the more the movement, the more Stdev. between shot strings. (?)

I will buy a brick of the White River Energetics LR Primers and give them a try.

Believe they are USA made! One thing we won't see 30 dollar a box primers or 20-dollar powder anymore!! But Hell i didn't seem to have any extra money back then either
