Our January 22 BPCR #2 match was held this past Saturday at Smithmoor East and was a success. As expected in January, the weather was a bit of a challenge. The high temperatures for the day only reached the high teens and it was breezy and overcast all day. Mild snow flurries fell most of the day as well. The wind direction was apparently just wrong enough that more of that cold breeze came into the shed than normal. We have shot on colder days and the conditions were not terrible, but it was a bit chilly. We kept the propane heaters and the wood stove going wide open so it was easy to quickly get warmed up after coming off the line or back from setting targets.
Ham and beans from the Farmer brothers made a great lunch. Coralee and Grace did a bang up job as usual. Grace made the cornbread this month as well as a big yellow cake for dessert. There were a couple of boxes of donuts for our morning snack. Thank you to who brought those, I love ‘em!
I try to keep the 5th station the same for both matches in the same month, so it was again offhand Texas stars at 100 yards. I think they are fun, even if no one else does. Lol. Phillip Dobkins smacked 6 to be high in AAA/AA/A class, and I was having a good offhand day and was pleased to whack nine, only missing the last one. GRRRRR!!!
Several pieces of good shooting happened and I’m always pleased to see that. Mark Pachares’ 14 year old daughter Miranda is a dead shot and she was almost as pleased as her Dad, Mark, to shoot really well on Saturday. She shot clean prone in some nasty conditions and killed TWO chickens! Wow!! Awesome shooting Miranda! Dick Farmer also pulled one out from who knows where and shot a fantastic 35 by smacking 5 chickens and shooting clean prone. Yahooo! Great Shooting Dick! We ended up having six shooters shoot clean prone, which is freaking amazing considering it was cold, windy, and snowing all day. Congratulations on shooting Clean Prone Miranda, Dick, Steve Anderson, Michael Rix, Dick Hennebry, and Danny Glick.
AA/A class saw Greg Tryon come out on top with a solid 30, while Miranda Pachares took AAA with her awesome 32. Dick Farmer was first in Master class with his 35, and Grand Master class went to Michael Rix with 4 chickens and clean prone making a 34. I was tickled to shoot a pile of chickens and win the match with a 36.
Our next Winter Series 22 BPCR match will be February 8th, followed by our Best of the Best 22 match on February 15th and 16th. Both matches are filling up fast so let me know if you are thinking to come. I’m hoping the Best of the Best match will become an annual event and is as much fun as I think it will be. I hope to see you there.
Thank you everyone for your support and coming to shoot our matches,
