Hunting load testing

Post by deerhuntsheatmeup »

Well Gents and Others,

The time had come this weekend for some load testing using a Lyman 420 FN lubed with Greased Lightning and powered by Goex.

I used Remington cases and 72 grains of Goex Express ffg. The bullets were seated to cover all grooves. Having tried to use the barrel sights of late, and being unsuccessful in seeing the rear sight. I resorted to trying a new method of using the tang sight and a post and ball front.

All testing was done at 200 meters with attention to light so as to make sure that I would be able to see the front sight in fairly low light conditions. As it turned out, the front sight should have been a wide post for better visibility, but with the eyecup removed I was able to shoot the chicken swinger at 200 meters easily.

Come on deer season! I can smell it cookin' now!

Kelly O and David B,
I plan to be at the shoot on Saturday. I'm only coming for to meet you guys and rachet-jaw a little. If either of you needs a scope or a spotter, maybe I can help out. I have a Kowa 821 scope and you fellers are welcome to use it.

ole pizen slinger,

I thought you were going to shoot. Just load up and join us. You will probably do very well. Plus, you have a chance to win a fantastic Shiloh Hartford in 45-70. .............................JimK
