Here's something interesting. After the last post I figured to do something and picked up an old 10" K&F file with what seem to me to be fine teeth and figured I would try it but expected it to just slip on the hard steel of the knife. Instead, it filed just fine and in short time I had made a nice even curve of the broken tip.
