Ive almost religiously applyed for the "big three" here in Montana since I got back from my big middle eastern vacation a few years back. I now have 7 points for Sheep, 6 for Mnt Goat, and 0 for Moose. Drew my moose tag last year and was on cloud nine for a month. Id really happy to get a sheep tag this year!

Oh yeah, I remember that one. I just get excited whenever a moose is mentioned. It is still at the very top of my bucket list and has been all my life.

Nice job. Meanwhile, I'm waiting to see if I draw deer or lope tags in WY. The antelope is very very unlikely this year, but the deer are a fair bet.

I wish now that I would have got him with a Shiloh Sharps, but a 1903 with open sights is the next best thing I suppose.

That you got him puts you way ahead of me. I've chased them with muzzleloaders, but never pulled a trigger.

On the other hand, I'm not dead yet.

Now my goal is Alaska moose and interior grizzly with a sharps rifle. Narrowed it down to a #3 with shotgun or mil butt and 28 or 30" 14 or 16# barrel in either 44-77 or 50-90. Would love to get a free range buff skull to add to my old one as well.

Let me know if you need help with that AK moose. It is what I'm planning for and would have done last fall if my partner had not backed out. I'd use either a #3 Sharps or a #5 Ballard (original).

Just a heads-up! If you are a Non-res with plans on applying for antelope in NE Montana this year you will likely be wasting your time. This past winter was brutal on the herds. Snow was so deep that the critters took to the cleared railroad tracks for refuge. Need I say what the result was! FWP said approximately 1000 head littered the tracks. And thats just what died on the tracks. Untold others died on the plains. Many of those that fed on haystacks also died as a result of the antelopes digestive systems not being acclimated to that sort of forage. Many others migrated across Fort Peck reservoir while it was frozen and are now stuck south of the reservoir after the ice went out. Will likely take a few years for the antelope to recover. Deer reportedly took a pretty good hit in the NE region as well.

The place Carolyn and I go, about 150 miles NW of Fairbanks AK 9 miles past the end of a decent road on a tractor trail we have Moose rubbing there necks on the camper and Bears come visiting too

Well, I had a place picked out up NE of Kotzebue, but it takes two to do a drop camp proper and that means four sound knees. We only came up with 3, so had to call it off. Now I need to find two more good knees.

Well I cant help you much, I have an Ice pack on my knee right now and I just found out that I lost 23% of my lung capacity from years of working with asbestos.
I guess I will find out how I get along up in the Mountains this summer.

This gettin' old stuff sucks and I'm not very good with it. I have one of my own knees carved on, but I have it whipped back into shape. Lungs are good, back is okay. So the window is still open for a little while longer.
