Stephen went to game and fish office today and was able to buy and antelope buck tag and a cow calf elk both in the unit where the ranch is, but I had to pay nonresident fees this year.

Cool Orville I guess you will need a guide! I will see if I can squeeze you in my schedule!

Orville as they probably explained to you , you must live here for a full year before you can get resident license.But you should be able to get type one permits on your ranch (providing it makes the 2000 days use and 160 requiremnts) next year.

Don I knew about the 1 year, but they couldn't tell me about landowner permits, said I need to talk to the local game warden for that area, I have a call to him.
Stephen not sure if I need a guide, I can just set by the old cabin, or on a knob with some trees, where the only game trail crosses the canyon, but I sure would like sipping some fine sctoch with you in the evenings.

Well kil your antelope,deer and elk on your own place save the landowner coupons, and get some other folks to shoot a couple off of your place as well, so you have the landowner coupons to start to build the case that yes you have the 2000 days use. Take pictures etc . Then when you apply for the landowner license in mid April , you fill out the back of the form with a brief legal description and mail it to the local warden.
It wouldn't hurt to get Joe Gilbert from the Sheridan office down to visit, do a little shootin and hunt a duck or deer....

Picked up an additional cow/calf tag yesterday! Hopefully the freezer will be full this fall! My boys have an acquired taste for all things elk!

Elk hunting should be pretty good in the Big Horns this year. I was lost in the Mountains for about three weeks waiting for my Shiloh's to get done and the bugling was pretty heavy during the evenings and I saw some very large herds, large enough that I could not count them several times on different mountains.

Seems awful early for elk to be bugling at least with any intensity.

That's what the Ranger I was talking to said also.

They bugle a little bit all year long, on cold mornings and evenings especially. But there is a difference in tone and deflection of the "off season" bugle and the rut type bugles.
