On Thursday, February 13, 2014, I took Jane to the Big Horn Canyon Ranch in Riverside County California for her first-ever hunting trip.

Of course, she wanted to take her Shiloh. So we packed-up her 1874 Sporter #3 in .40-65 and a handful of cartridges loaded with 400 grain 20:1 pills over a compressed load of ffg Goex and headed out.

The result was that she fired a single shot into the vitals (heart/lung) and a 700+ lbs. feral hog went right down. When it was all said and done, she loved her first hunting experience and everyone loved the Shiloh rifle and the pink Shiloh cap she was wearing added to the entire experience.

Thanks Shiloh for being such great friends and for building such a fine rifle. Like I always say, "If it isn't a Shiloh, it isn't a Sharps!"

Now that is a lot of sausage/bacon material there, and your wife is to be congratulated on a nice shot. Now take that gal elk hunting (don't worry, she will kill one) so you have something to mix w/ all that pork for burger, sausage, slim jims, etc. Looks like a nice husband/wife time together on your hunt. Brings back some nice memories for my bride and I, when we were a lot younger.

I agree that is a Huge HAWG, But

Very hard to see the Huge HAWG in the picture --- with that BIG BIG SMILE on your wife's face. That Smile takes up most of the picture. Great hunt and Great shooting

She's planning on attending the Quigley this year.

Her rifle has only been fired a few times and she doesn't have any sight settings, so I doubt that she will participate in the match. However, we will be practicing and recording the settings during the practice days. Maybe next year she can be in the match.

If She can practice and get settings, She can shoot the match!! We need another shooter in "F" troop.

I bet the relative position of her sites will be close to my 40-82 Sil. with 64 grains of powder...all we need is the offset.
My 100 yd site setting is 42
The 350 yd bucket is 71
the 411 rect. is 84
The 385 yd diamond is 80
the 525 rect. is 96
the 600 yard stop sign is 107
The buff at about 800 is 143

Have Jane shoot at 100 yards and compare that to my 100 yd setting, and we have the offset...that may get us in the ballpark and we can have her sighted in within a couple of hours...
