Impact hammer -- is it safe?

Post by SOURDOUGH »

I have a impact hammer or inertia hammer for use in unloading unfired rounds. My concern, is it safe to use one of these hammers with black powder. I just did it with no bad experience but got to thinking about it afterward and wanted some opinions from this forum.

Most impact hammers are made of plastic and could build up static electricity with the possibility of a spark. I don't think the act of unloading the cartridge with an impact device will cause a problem but I would worry about a spark as you were dumping the powder out of the plactic hammer.

The easiest way i have found to pull cast bullets is to put the loaded round in a loading press with out a die in it and run the bullet up past the top of the threads and grab it with a channel locks and then pull the case down with the ram .Arnie
