50 x 2.5 sight setting ?

Post by Howard Haworth »

Hello all
I went to the range today with my 50-2.5 and a new bullet. I have a 10 shot group at 100 yrd's of 3"x2 7/8". A 611 gr. postell type bullet with 100 gr 2f Goex .060 vegi wad and wwlr primer. The velocity is 1230 fps. ,does anyone have a 500 yrd sight setting for this caliber? Will be going to Machias next Saturday and would like to be on the paper. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Howard

50-2.5 now thats a biggie. I'm just too much a wimp to try and tackle it. I'm even scared of the Big 45's (110 and 120). I'm Impressed.

Hi Howard,
I think if you come up about 60-65 MOA from your 100yd setting you should be on paper OK. I tested some loads in my 45-70 yesterday at 500yds that were probably about the same velocity as yours and had to come up 65 MOA from 100yd. I think 4 or 5 MOA of that was due to the cold. Everybody seems to need a little more elevation when the temp. is down around freezing.
