Crossed sticks

Post by Outrider »

Gentlemen,
Is there a "proper" position for your rifle in the crossed sticks? I have yet to shoot a match but from all the photos I've seen I see rifles resting on barrels and forends both. Enlighten me please.

Most will rest the barrel on the cross sticks about 5" from the end of the barrel. The farther out on the barrel you get, the more stable it becomes. Just be carefull and do not get right on the end of the barrel, or it will come off of the sticks when the gun recoils. ddgo

DDGO,
Thanks for the response. I kind of thought out on the bbl. would (by leverage) minimize the effects of any shooter movement. I was not certain though because of course you don't touch the bbl on a lighter rifle. I'm guessing it's ok because the bbls are so heavy. Thanks.

You can also find a sweet spot by trying different spots.I found on my .40-70 has one 8" back that drew the group in.
