I purchased S/N B3889 from a dealer a while back. Just wondering if the barrel steel on this rifle is 4150S or is it the 11L37 steel of the earlier Wolf barrels? This rifle is beautifully finished - nice figure on the Walnut stock. Chambered in 45-90. Any help in identifying the barrel steel would be appreciated.

Best Regards,

Eric

The B in the serial number signifies a Bryant made rifle so I would assume it is the steel they were using at the time. I don't know if they changed the steel when they took over but at almost 4000 into their production I would think they were out of any left over Wolf barrels.

John,

"Perfection consists not so much in doing extraordinary things as in doing ordinary things extraordinarily well" And I imagine that would include getting the family name correct, it's Bryan no 't'.

'L' is a leaded steel.
The Shiloh barrels of today are not of that alloy.

A "B" in the front of or rear of a serial number is a Bryan era gun
