Does anyone know of a micrometer adjustable powder compression die for the 40 70 Sharps Straight?
and where to get it?

Vickerman did make them. I'm not sure if BACO carries them. I have a non micrometer one I use. Best thing going as it never hits the case rim.

Just checked, yes they do have them (Buffalo Arms). You might have to have the seating die. I didn't look beyond checking for the stems.

I have a micrometer-adjustable, in-line seater/compression die from Meacham (very similar to Vickerman). Not certain whether he still sells them.

I run'n about .350" with 'E' 2F.
Both my .45-70 and .45-90 like it.

What the target told me to do.
Goex seems to like a lot of compression.
I'm using a GG, Paul Jones Creedmoor cast 30:1.
Shot as cast, and panned lubed with DGL.

thanks Lumpy. I'm trying a new mould...accurate, custom made for two diameters in 360 grains, cast 1 in 20

top diameter is .3953 and the base is .395, then wrapped with BA 9 pound .015 wet.
It just slips, with a little push, into the Shiloh 40 70 SS.

I'm loading with 70 OE and the first was 4 in one big hole and 3 outside in 7 shots.
The load I tried with .010 paper slipped easier in the bore, but was not at all accurate.

I have a bunch on the bench with 70, more compression at about .20, and the BA paper.

I want to run a bunch through to see if I get consistent groups. all at 100 yrd.
The 1 in 16 factory twist should stabilize a 360 grain ok.

I use, and probably will continue to use, a standard adjustable (by nut) compression die.
I did bevel the square edge and stopped ruining cases. It slides in nicely and will not catch the case edge and squish it.
