45/90 brass-Starline or Jamison??
Hope to have my Shiloh 45/90 1874 in my hands sometime next year. Time to start getting some components for it. Any thoughts pro or con about Starline vs Jamison brass in regards to quality, accuracy etc.? Cost looks to be similar so that isn't a factor.

Starline gets my vote. I use it in a 86 lever gun, and a winchester high wall both in 90. The Shiloh 77 currently in production will also be a 45-90.

Both my rifles and myself prefer the Jamison. Only problem is you only have one choice for now, and that's Starline, until Jamison comes back into production.

Starline works very well for me. It did require annealing. I'd read a few reports here about poor accuracy unless it was annealed and I can definitely say that was the case for me.

Will Jamison ever open the doors again ??

Starline and anneal the case mouth before loading.
FWIW: I size my S'line .45-90 cases in a .45-110 FL size die.
Works the brass less, and fits my Shiloh's chamber so nice.
I only load GG bullets.

Re: 45/90 brass-Starline or Jamison??
in my 40 70 SS Shiloh, I found that while the Jamison brass works, it has a sharp edge on the base and sometimes catches the block going up.
I have to push it to get it to load.
for mine, I use 30 40 Craig. now I know this will not work in the .45's but the reason I mention it is that this brass has a
Rounded edge on the base,,,,and the block just slips over the case and seats it firmly every time. It's also good brass.
I would look for a case that has a rounded base, the originals had this.....ask around...Ken

Kenny, yes that is a plus for the falling blocks like the sharps. That is why I like the Rem. .30-40 cases also for the .40-70. The Stevens actions will cam in a round almost 1/4" so it's not a problem with thew sharp edged rims.

Re: 45/90 brass-Starline or Jamison??
Another vote for Starline here. Sorting through 300 pieces there was less than 4 grains difference in weight and after deburring the flash-holes I reckon there wouldn't have been enough brass shavings to coat half a match-head. Trimming to length was not required as they were all good to go. I did anneal the case mouths before use as others have said.
Produce groups like this on 500m rams out of my CPA. ( Sorry , but my Shiloh is 40-70 )
