I just recieved old western mold, seating and the modified lee crimp die

The mold casts well, pan lubing is a snap

In my 22 silhouette rifle i have a very tight chamber, the 40 grain bullet expands the brass to just over 0.225 😥
Which will not fit 😭 sooooooo looks like some die design and lathe time will happen next week.

Perhaps a bit of work on the crimp die may help 🤔

This is gonna be interesting, sizing the heel and i hope the bullet od just a tad 😏

So today I fired up the pot and casted 40 bullets from the Old West mould in 16/1 alloy. They weigh 39.3 grains each. They do pan lube really easy. I used a CH4D seating die to seat them in virgin FedArms primed 22LR cases. My COAL is 0.979in. They will not chamber in My Model 52B Winchester or my Model 82 Kimber. They do however chamber in my Winchester Miruku Lowall taking advantage of the camming ability of the block. I believe the .225 diameter of the bands above the heel are the problem for the two bolt guns with tight chambers. A .223 sizing die would do the trick. The simple solution for me is just shoot them in the Lowall which is what I wanted to do anyways.

Sounds like a paralell circumstance to my dilema

I have a sizing die drawn up with a pushing stem to fit the bullet heel, hope to size the heel round and the O.D. to 0.224 in one stroke, Time will tell

Ill have to use the wire EDM to make the sizing die, 0.224 is an "off" size and the wire will hold 4 decimal accuracy

Stumbling forward
