I was going to make a Comanche style short Horse bow but the more I thought on it I realized that a short bow is harder to shoot accurately so this will be a more friendly design for her to practice with. I think I will make it about 30 lbs draw weight so she will have something to grow into although it will be a bit tough for her right now.

The whole bow was wrapped in rubber strips yesterday when the lamination was being done. What your viewing in the photos is phase two where the grip lamination is being added and the tips are wrapped to keep them from splitting in the sun while the glue cures.
I'll cut out the profile tomorrow and shape the grip and glue on the antler tip guards.
The grip will be narrowed from both sides to roughly 3/4s inch wide and will bend a bit with the limbs on each end which will retain almost their full width at the grip ends, tapering to 1/2 inch at each tip. It should finish up about 52-54 inches long. She probably only has a 22-24 inch draw any way so I could make it a bit shorter but don't want it to weight stack at the end of the draw.
I'm going to get it pretty well done then take it over and give it to her to decorate as she is quite the little artist. I will let her design paint dry then bring it back and finish coat it with some more Spar Urethane. She's pretty excited about the project with grandpa and her making a bow.

Mike,

Not a bow, (I've never been one for throwing sharp sticks.) Something I threw together for a friend who is having a Kimber 1911 engraved for a recent Air Force Academy grad and newly minted 2LT, USAF. Hope he likes it.

A fitting presentation box for a USAF Academy grad! My father was a retired USAF Colonel pilot who always spoke highly of the Academy. Super nice walnut Woody! You make awesome boxes! I have a couple. What is this young man's first assignment?

I've not met the end recipient. One of our local Cummins engineers requested the box for a friend of his. I'll deliver it tomorrow at our Thursday night match.

The tip guards made of moose antler are on and the grooves cut. A bit more scrape shaping and it will be ready for the tillering tree. Got the string made and the loops served today so the bow is coming right along.

AND last weekend I made a garage sale and bought a 45# draw WING HUNTER for five bucks...that's right 5 bucks. No string and the limbs were true. I put a sting on it when I got home and it's a VERY fast re curve !! I told the fellow selling it that it was worth more and that I'd give it a good home and take it hunting. that seemed to make the folks happy. I guess I've been livin right !!

Channel catfish are awfully good to eat. There used to be a really good restaurant in Colfax, Indiana that served catfish. I would schedule a cross country flight from Kokomo, Indiana to build my hours in the air and to eat at their restaurant. This was back in the mid 70's. The only freshwater fish that taste better, in my opinion, are walleye. When I was going to Med school in Toledo, Ohio I would catch them in the Maumee river and freeze them up to eat thru the winter. A guy has to eat!
