My Wage lead pot gave up the Ghost, third one in 5 years and there is nothing in stock anywhere short of maybe a Lee.
Brownell had a 220V RCBS with a PID so I had them sent it because I need to start casting for this season and it always seams like when you need it the most they quit.
This unit came with three European 3 prong plugs and there just are none that I can find local or even Amazon for last resort. These are I think New Zealand plugs and I don't know if the RCBS unit is wired for 60 HZ current or 50 HZ like they use in Europe or maybe even 400 HZ.
Do any of you have a 220V RCBS lead pot? and if so did you cut the plug and changed it so you can use our 220V 60 HZ electricity?
I don't want to fry the PID if it's designed for something other than 60 HZ.

Just cut the plug off and get an American one. Probably $5 at ACE hardware. Seems pretty simple to me, but you will still need 220 to your casting bench.

I hesitate cutting the plug. I have 240 twist plugs and receptacles and I was just going to do that but had second thoughts because I have a Minelab mental detector and they are made in Australia and I know they run on 50 HZ down there and the 12V battery charger that came with the detector get very hot so I just use the truck battery to recharge them.

I have some Naval surplus for my Ham Radio Hobby and they use or used 400 H¸ on the WW-2 ships and some of that stuff I made a converter to run it.

I seldom read the instruction manuals past page 1 but I read all 10 in this one and nothing for the power line, and the plate on the unit just has the serial number and 240 volts 800 watts.

But the manual stresses very hard not to operate this while bathing, sitting or standing in water and many other things

Are you sure its not 240V?? after looking at the website its seems its all they offer. As for the Hz, usually you can run 50hz equipment on a 60Hz system but not a 60hz on a 50hz system.
I would just call RCBS in the morning, they are really easy to deal with and ask, you dont want to screw up a brand new unit. If it turns out you cant use it, maybe a cheap power supply??

I'd say you've got the RCBS international ( & convict ) version. I just cut this entry from the RCBS site... reads as follows.

"The Easy-Melt™ has two versions, 120V and 240V. 120V is meant for US-based customers and the 240V is meant for international customers. The 240V Easy-Melt™ will not work with an American outlet. "

... from that I would gather you'll need a 240v source or a transformer to suit. The lead/ plug and I'm guessing thermostat would likely all be different.
.. The two mates I have who've purchased the Easy Melt down here are pretty impressed with them. How long they last will be the test. Kurt I actually purchased a 110v transformer some years ago so I'd be able to use U.S. wired gear down here ( its often less expensive for us ) ...but alas..its sat in its
box for nearly six years without a need. My bashed up old Lee Pro 20..isnt pretty anymore but its still delivering the goods.

The 240 is no problem, I have it in the room that I run the Mill with and a few other things.

I'm just a little concerned with the solid state components if they can handle the 50 HZ. I will call RCBS in the morning and find out if it will fry the chips.

Interesting that you mentioned the possibility of 400 cps. Figured you must be a ham or military radio collector. Lots of aviation gear runs on 400 cps, but some of that WW-II Navy gear runs on 800 cps. I've been a ham since 1957. Have owned a lot of surplus over the years. The last piece of 800 cps gear I had was a one of a kind, pre-WW-II, GO-6 which most of the collectors had never seen. I seriously doubt that anything on the market these days would run on 400 cps. What's your call? Mine is W7HDL.

Glad to hear this George. Always good to make a new contact.
That HDL sounds familiar, I will have to dig out my old logbook. I mostly worked CW on 15 & 160 Mtrs. but been inactive since the late 90's but still have all my gear and kept the license up.
The only piece of Naval gear I have left is a TCK-4 XMTR that was decommissioned in 1946 from a Liberty Ship but I tore out the modulator and it's a grid block keyed. It runs a couple 813's in the finals but I would only use it late at night because it would wipe out all the telephones and scramble the neighbors TV sets even using filters LOL.

My Wagge burned out also. My neighbor is an electrical guru . He pulled the bottom off and found a simple burned wire. He reattached it with a $.35 part from Ace hardware and it was good to go.

Like Kenny, I too have had mine for twenty years. This is a good reminder that if it gives up the ghost, take it apart and see if it is something simple. Don't just toss it.
