Gong, tin, paper, cardboard. They can all be made into suitable rifle targets when the other option is not shooting at all. Did enough of that last year.

well you can't blame a guy for using a home range advantage if available.
bruce.

Heck, In Montana they also use 100 Lb LP gas bottles at 900 yards. They sound better than a fridge door when you hit or if you hit them

Sounds like in Montana they shoot at about everything except paper targets, except of course, Deep Creek Range in Missoula.
They better start thinking about incoming vehicles with WA, OR and/or CA plates before they totally loose the farm.

Yes Zack. But their any shape target shoots are growing and the paper shoots are declining.

So, are we in essence saying that lurking around land fills and shooting large targets at relatively close range appeals to more shooters than paper targets on an established range at known distances?

Perhaps some just don't graduate from the plinking phase?

Well it obviously does appeal to plinkers and the probability is the scoring and level of difficulty are vastly different in target.

does it matter what you put small groups on working up loads?

In case you need to be informed.

No snow banks in Southern Arizona on the Sonoran Desert floor sufficient to stop a .177 caliber pellet from a Marksman BB pistol.

You're kinda slipping a bit DD
This thread was all about practicing with what i had available for the time being .

Shooting the monthly long range matches or the Buz Coker Memorial at 8,9,1000 yds with the only wind flags being on the line are neither close range or cake walks.

Id love to shoot the paper too.
Maybe ill see you in September, even if im only watching!!

Sorry Bruce, never been to a land fill match or a refrigerator match. Have been to a few target matches and a few silhouette matches.
While on the subject, I notice that some silhouette shooters resist testing their loads on paper. Just sayin'

Dang now you got me thinking DD!!
That white iron pile at the landfill is about a thousand yards away. If anybody's interested in showing up one of these Sundays we'll just tip up a few of those refrigerators and paint a black dot on them and have us a landfill shoot !!
