Those nuts must have been easy to hit as big as they must have been to let somebody shoot him like that

contrary to popular and general belief, australian nuts are no bigger than those from any other nation.
in fact the story is another urban myth.
which means that the shot was a good one, and probably required the accuracy of a pp bullet to do its work.
(or was it a blast from a shotgun?)

I have used 9# 25% rag & 100% rag, 10.5# copy paper, & even tried 16# velum. There was not any measurable MV change. the thicker paper did require sizing down the patched bullet in order to chamber the round, but other than that they all shot the same. Caveat, the accuracy was not measured at that time.

No chronographing here yet but yesterday i shot ww and 20-1 side by side and saw the wheelweights hit lower. I believe the pressure was lower with the harder bullet. I didnt see any difference in accuracy.
I can relate to brian shooting refrigerators it is very hard to see a 40 cal hole at 300 in a heavy mirage. I could barely make out the 4.5 in bull on the paper stapled on the backer.
Also even with a 7 degree leade i could make paper rings. So the phenomenon is not totally related to the 45 degree leade but more to the violence of bumpup. In my opinion.
Clouds, breeze , mirage, and shooter error will shift the poi of any load.

OH Boy, this is what I want to see before I recut the chamber.

If you need some different bullets to try I can send you some when I find a new lead pot. Right now I just have partial sleeves of different moulds that are cut for 1/14 twist.

I think a lighter bullet hits lower because they clear the muzzle faster than a heavier bullet from the same mould because of the muzzle jump and delay of the slower bullet......I think

I think you'd be better to stick with the crossno chamber in the Browning.Thats a proven fit.
This has the Rhodes - Theodore- Manson chamber for the .408 barrel.

I have a .40 reamer I had Manson make to clean out the Browning chamber. I can run it in as deep as I need.
But my shooting these heavy bucking rifles might be over. I woke up Saturday morning in the early morning dawn and looked up at the skyight in the camper and it disappeared in a dark coffee colored color in both eyes, completely blocked it out.
Going on line I kept rubbing my eyes because I could not get a clear sight picture thinking I had a film of dust in them. On Sunday when it was overcast I lost the targets, they looked like a dark blob with no white center showing.
I have a Friday appointment to get the eyes checked to find out what is going on.

but those were shot at only 180 yards working up loads.

Thats quite possible kurt. It didnt show up at the buffalo though. I took 10 rounds to try up there and mistakenly shot them on the buff in the match.
I had 25 min wind on and the day befores setting and went five for eight the misses were me getting complacent.
There is a difference for sure but not as great as showed at 200.
The dd bullet in the standard chamber worked pretty good when i could keep my head out of my butt.

I think I'll tape a piece of paper to it with a 10 on it that'll really cover all the bases

Nice to see the .40-82 is still a current topic.

My Shiloh #1 currently has a Green Mountain Brl in .40-60 Maynard and under my loading bench I found the reamer for that, right next to a virgin reamer for .40-82. I'm seriously considering having this chamber redone in .40-82, tough decision in that I also found ~300 pieces of brass for each and about 120 .40's already cast (from 2008).
