A few pages back Mr. Christian sp? Asked if anyone has looked at the over flash hole wad after loading. I had the occasion to do just that in my .45-70 loads. Using Whitman’s filter paper cut with a .40 caliber punch, be careful not to double up on having more that one wad as cutting wads when they are stapled together they stick tight to each other and need separating. After charging cases with Swiss 1 1/2 and compressing the powder .040” I pulled the loads and found the filter paper well dimpled into the flash hole. Take away from this what you will. I don’t think the idea that the over flash hole wad prevents “fines” from entering the flash hole is valid but how individual grains of powder is forced into the flash hole.
