Got the call yesterday. Montana Roughrider in 45-70 will be shipped today. Now the final wait until Thursday.

I also got lucky today at the scrap yard. When in Bloomington, I stop at the scrap yard to see what the lead situation is. I've been there enough that they know me by name and what I am looking for. I was pulling lead pipe out of one of the barrels when one of the guys told me that he set aside several of the shielding bricks that he had come across. He had saved them for me. Eight 26 lb. pure lead bricks. I also noticed a bucket of foil squares that I recognized as packaging from a dental office. I've seen this foil before. It is real "tin" foil. Paid $ .85 / lb. for it all. 311 lbs. When I got home, I melted the foil, cleaned it and was left with 39 lbs. of tin. At $ .85 / lb., a pretty good deal.

Nope. Got a little work to do in the shop, pack the truck, and then hit Sam's Club for some custom beef for this weekend at Friendship. I'll waylay the UPS driver on Thursday, so I can be on the road to the match this weekend.

My new Roughriders arrived recently. The one in .45-70 might end up being my new silhouette rifle. I ordered it with extra fancy wood, but no pewter tip to make it balance better for scoped silhouette. It's surprising how light it is without a cheek piece or pewter tip. It weighs exactly 11 lbs on my scale. That's with a 30" heavy barrel.

Naw, it's not broke, it's just lazy

Here is sort of what they look like. Both are Montana Rough Riders. The light is poor so the wood looks a lot better in real life.



The top one is a 16lb copy of Jimbo's gun. I think I ordered it in 2017. Lucinda told me it'd take a while to get and it was worth the wait! It's a 30" barrel, 1:16 twist in .45-2.6", checkered stocks. I've only shot it once so far and it seemed to do pretty all right at just under 900 yards.

The second is a replacement for the only Shiloh I've ever sold ( a 34" std weight Long Range Express ). This is the rifle I won at Robert's match last time I was there. It's a 30" heavy, 1:18 twist, .45-70, fancy wood, plain forearm for better balance with a scope. I've only shot it at the rams and turkeys and it showed promise with my fire-forming loads. Not as good as my .40-65 yet, but that gun is magic. I'm hoping that once I get it sorted out it'll be invincible on the rams

You are right though Zack. Developing the loads for these rifles is going to eat up some supplies for sure.
