ok, I want your experts advice on which primer you use for Shiloh 40 70 SS.
65 Swiss 1 1/2 custom 400 GG mold

I found a site that has them but your have to buy $200 minimum. That's a lot of primers to log into.
which would you recommend.
are the Benchrest primers the best? or are the CCI LR Reg primers that I'm using now ok?

Gun Show last week end Winchester Large Rifle Primers were $170.00 a thousand. No pistol primers of any description.

Possibly, in your case, if you are not shooting beyond 500 Meters the CCI-300, Federal Large Pistol, Winchester Large Pistol or RP-2 1/2 will do. With Swiss 1 1/2 less than 600 yards the CCI-300 would be a good option. Local prices Phoenix and Tucson were $65.00/M when they had them.

My go to primer for long range is either the Gold Medal Match Federal 150 or 210 depending on the rifle's preference. I have one rifle that likes the Winchester Large Rifle Primers. I have yet to find a rifle that prefers the BR-2. They are OK for fireforming brass.

I would never pay gun show prices. Stock up and keep stocked. I just bought (two weeks ago) 1000 CCI 34 primers for my M1A from Midway 70 bucks.Now that is a little more than double what they cost two years ago, but not 170 bucks at a gun show.If you have kept up your stock you will not feel like you have to pay inflated prices at a show.

How do the CCI 200 primers group? I've been using them and had no trouble getting 1.0-1.25 MOA vertical at 250 meters in recent testing.

Clarence, from my limited experience they ain't bad in BPCR Rifles. Some say as good as BR-2's.
The CCI 300's with 1.5 Swiss really sing in my 40-65.

CCI's have always been my preference in standard and BR persuasion. I have also used Winchester, Federal and Remington a bit but CCI's have been very reliable an consistent in large /small rifle and pistol.
In percussion caps I use both CCI and RWS but have to give the nod to the RWS by a bit. The RWS musket caps have been very good as well .

In my rebored original Remington sporter 40-70 SS with 69 grains of 1 1/2 Swiss, the CCI 250 does better than the CCI-200. I've also had good results with Federal 210 primers in that rifle. Tried pistol primers (CCI-300) years ago in the 45-70 black powder loads. Wrote that one off real quick. Rifles need rifle primers, Comment on musket caps - -- the CCI ones will not reliably work in the paper cartridge Sharps. Yoy definately need the RWS caps for that. The CCI musket caps do work OK in the 58 caliber mustets and in my Maynard carbine.

in the 40-70, fed 210 work very well, in the 38-55 fed LP work very well. I am yet to try the Fed Lp in the 40-70. The 40-70 was using 80gr and a DDPP and the 38-55 was using 40gr with a Lyman Postell, both same lot of 1.5F swiss. All other rifles. 45-70, 45-100. 308, 32-40, 30-30, 44-70, 44-100, 30-06, 300 savage use Fed210M.
