Ronnie, lre's don't come with a rear sight dovetail you have to spec that and a rear barrel sight. lre the 34" barrel is standard but other lengths are selectable (30") is as long as I'll ever buy again. Both are std with the cheek piece but you have to spec the accent line. Montana roughrider is the way to go with checkered steel shotgun butt.without the cheek piece. Bobw

I have been thinking about ordering a pistol grip stocked rifle for hunting with a scope. The plan so far is a 30 inch .40 caliber 1/2 octagon standard weight barrel, pewter forend, Hartford collar, extra fancy wood, shadow line cheek piece, checkered steel butt plate. Have to decide on which MVA scope to use and whether to go .40-70 or .40-90 chambering.

Still have it and will keep using it. Everyone needs a “Big Fifty” in their arsenal.

The #1 has the best stock for long range with the high comb

I don t buy that gary, the MR is the best when you put on a comb extender over the cheek piece it kicks off to the right
Don't happen on a MR. Bobw

Interesting point you make.
I have never used a detachable cheek riser.

At 800 you barely got contact 1000yards you don't
Stupid cheek piece gets in the way of keeping it plumb. Bobw

Long range what? Sitting or prone?

Long Range prone or Mid-range. I will take the LRE all damn day long.

Some of ya fellas need to remember there is a whole other world beyond the Quigley.

For a hunting rifle that might be used for some match shooting go with the #1. For a match rifle the LRE.
You're not going to like the recoil of the 40-90 with that standard weight barrel, not to mention how much powder the thing consumes every time you yank the trigger.
40-70 or even a 40-65 will handle hunting, midrange and silhouette just fine.

Pacecars is talking about spec'ing out a hunting rifle with a scope. Not a long range match rifle or mid range either. There is a whole other world beyond punching holes in paper targets for the precision rifle shooting games out there that other people engage in. Your words not mine ,read the whole thread before attacking someone who has been asked for advice by the OP. Bobw
